The Carlisle Fire department is in compliance with The Health Insurance Portability and accountability Act (HIPAA). HIPAA was enacted as part of a broad Congressional attempt at incremental health care reform. It provides for portability of health insurance, and administrative simplification. The regulations contain many positive changes for emergency medical services; HIPAA compliance will continue to be a multi-faceted challenge.
HIPAA privacy rules are designed to ensure that a patient’s medical information is protected. Carlisle’s Firefighters have been receiving specialized in-service training in the areas of patient privacy and information security. This training will help ensure that while we provide the highest quality of medical care, our firefighters will preserve the integrity and confidentiality of patient information.
