At the June 2021 Annual Town Meeting, a new Town committee was established: the Town Governance Task Force. Per the warrant article, the Task Force is charged with “…studying the form, organization and practices of Town government and making recommendations to improve the efficacy, efficiency, responsiveness, and transparent functioning thereof.” Seven Carlisle citizens were appointed to serve on this committee, which is also charged with issuing a report to the 2022 Annual Town Meeting.
Our first task is to gain an understanding of what areas in Town could use some improvement. We aim to do this by listening to you. In order for us to do our work, we need to hear from as many stakeholders as possible: taxpayers, business owners, town employees, elected and appointed officials, volunteers, etc. Whether you have lived in Carlisle all your life, or you moved in yesterday; whether you are getting ready to retire from a town position, or you just started working here; whether you take part in COA programs or your youngest isn’t even in preschool yet—it is important for us to hear from you.
Over the next few weeks, you will hear more about how to offer us your thoughts. We plan to gather input by way of surveys, interviews, and letters. We will also offer a way to provide anonymous feedback. Our goal is to compile opinions as to what people think works well about Carlisle town government, what might need some improvement, and any suggestions about how to make these improvements.
We want to hear all of your suggestions. It can be from the smallest to the largest, overarching concern. Your feedback will guide our work. We will not be able to address every concern which is raised, but our goal is to utilize all the information you give us to prioritize our work based on common recurring themes.
We are excited to begin our work and we are committed to proceeding thoughtfully and to maintaining transparency throughout our tenure.
