Draft 2020 Open Space & Recreation Plan for Review

The Open Space & Recreation Plan Committee has released for public input a draft of Carlisle’s 2020 Open Space and Recreation Plan (OS&RP). There are links below to the main text, appendices, maps and tables that comprise the plan.

The Committee seeks public input on this draft. Final revisions will be made to the Plan based on input received from the public and from local boards, commissions, and organizations, and a final draft will then be submitted to the state for review and approval.

OS&RPs have been important planning documents for the Town of Carlisle for more than 40 years, providing guidance to Town leaders regarding priorities related to open space and recreation, including decisions about acquisition and preservation through Conservation Restrictions of specific parcels. In addition, a community with a state-approved plan is eligible for state and federal grants for conservation and recreation purposes.

The committee has been working diligently since December 2019—with some delays caused by the pandemic—to revise the 2013 Plan based on input from many citizens and Town boards. This effort has been independent of the Master Planning process, but the Committee expects the OS&RP will be integrated into the Master Plan.

To ensure that the plan filed with the state accurately represents a collective vision for open space and recreation in our community, all interested citizens are encouraged to read this detailed and important document and to provide their feedback by the end of March. Please send any questions and provide feedback to David Freedman, OS&RP Committee Chair, at df301@comcast.net or to Sylvia Willard, Conservation Administrator, at swillard@carlislema.gov.
