Board of Selectmen

Posted on: April 3, 2020

[ARCHIVED] Town Hall will be closed to the public until May 18th due to COVID-19

Update from the Board of Selectmen

At its meeting on Tuesday, April 28th, the Board of Selectmen extended the Town’s State of Emergency until at least June 1, 2020.  This means that all non-essential facilities and programs that involve groups larger than 10 persons are closed until at least that date.  The purpose is to encourage residents to remain at home except for trips necessary to obtain necessities such as food and medicines.  In addition, for persons who are elderly or who have medical conditions which make them especially susceptible to the effects of the COVID-19 virus, shopping and delivery assistance is being provided by the Carlisle Neighborhood Response Team.   The extended date is to allow time for groups that need significant advance notice for their program planning to adjust their calendars.

Notwithstanding the new date, the Board, in concert with the Local Emergency Planning Committee and the Board of Health, recognizes that many town functions need to continue while maintaining safe practices.  Although the Town Hall is closed to general public, some services remain available by phone or other means by employees working remotely.  Plans are currently underway to explore how Town Hall functions can safely be provided to those needing to access information available only by physically entering the building even during the closure such as building and septic permits.  This is especially important for projects which need to be scheduled during the warm months of summer and fall.

It is everyone’s goal to reopen the town in a manner that is consistent with the safety and health of all our residents.  This may mean a staggered opening of functions and spaces rather than a single date.  All of our town officials and volunteers appreciate the cooperation of the vast majority of our citizens in observing the guidelines for staying at home, social distancing, and wearing of masks that has made Carlisle among the safest of towns in the Commonwealth.  Safety will be paramount as we evaluate how and when to begin to relax restrictions.
