In July, the Town of Carlisle became aware of an investigation by the Littleton Police Department and the Middlesex District Attorney's Office into allegations of misappropriation of town funds by a former Littleton official. That individual, who is now deceased, was also recently employed by the Town of Carlisle.
As a matter of due diligence and fiduciary responsibility, the Board of Selectmen immediately engaged CliftonLarsenAllen LLP (CLA), the Town of Carlisle’s independent auditors, to reconcile the cash activity of the Treasurer’s records with the Town’s bank statements and general ledger for the period of March 1 through July 3, 2019, the period of time this individual was employed by Carlisle. After completing this assignment, CLA has stated that all Town funds have been accounted for, no financial irregularities or evidence of financial fraud was detected, and that Carlisle’s financial controls are appropriate and adequate.
